Panic Anxiety and Dr Claire Weekes

In the area of anxiety, panic and nervous disorders, Dr Claire Weekes is a seriously respected and internationally renowned expert. Doctors and treatment centers from several different countries recommend her material.  Queen Elizabeth II praised her for her contribution to the field and equally impressively, she was the first lady Doctor of Science at Sydney University.  She was twice nominate for a Nobel Peace Prize, in 1983 and 1990 and is hailed as one of the pioneers of self help in psychiatry.

Dr Claire Weekes passed away in 1990; however her knowledge and skills are still as relevant and effective as they were when she developed them.  Dr Weekes worked with many people that suffered from panic disorders and was able to utilize her observations, her scientific ability and her own personal understanding to help a multitude of people.  She would never claim to cure people; she would always say that she showed people how they could cure themselves.   Dr Weekes believed that panic and anxiety are the result of a continuous state of severe sensitization which is being kept alive by bewilderment and fear. Sometimes the condition is brought about by an event and sometimes it occurs bit by bit, especially if the sufferer is forced to live with unpleasant circumstances. Her step by step self help methods teach one to regain control over their state of mind.What’s more, Dr Weekes provides ways to manage and cope with the feelings of fear and dread that are commonly felt. Finally, she helps people to understand their physical symptoms and how they relate to their mental state.

Basically, her material explains what people are suffering from, how they can deal with it and provides an understanding of all the symptoms both physical and psychological that come with it. Panic and depression are closely linked and her treatment also deals with depression which she calls depletion.   An analogy could be someone turning over a car engine, fuelled by adrenaline, until the battery goes dead. Dr weekes will tell you how to recharge the battery. One of her strengths is that she is extremely good at reassuring her patients that they are not the only ones experiencing these symptoms and that there is in fact nothing seriously wrong with them.
