Depression isn’t simple. Depression can linger and grow for months or even years before being detected . Researchers know that different types of depression will afflict 15 million people in the USA annually.  Unfortunately fewer than 1/3 of these people will look for help for thier depression.  In many cases the afflicted do not even realize that they are ill.  It is normal in this day in age to fall prey to the stress that rules our lives. The road blocks in life have become more severe.  Hand to mouth survival is common.  The recent economic crises has created even more pressure to obtain and hold a job.  Stress leads to depression.

Countless types of depression exist.  Many of the labels are similar in meaning. These include medical depression, clinical depression and manic depression.  There is also severe depression that alludes to the final stages of the disease.  Depression is brought on by many associating factors.  There are those that believe it is biological, that chemical imbalances in the brain lead us to depression.  Depression is also passed along in the genes.  Those with family histories of depression are at risk.

The same issues can give birth to many different types of depression.  Substance abuse often leads to depression.  Alcohol or drugs both show links to depression.  In many cases the loss of a loved one has shown an enhanced possibility of depression.  History hasn’t been kind to mental depression.  It was considered a personal fault before it was recognized as a disease.  The end result was treatment that was not appropriate or effective.  Every stage of depression has its ill affects.  Early detection, then, is necessary to fight depression.

When depression becomes severe depression then medical care is a must.  When depression has reached this level then the thought of suicide is ever apparent.  The opportunities for help have passed because the cries for help haven’t been heard.   Treatments include a combination of talk therapy and prescription drugs.  Also available are support groups that can help.  Natural herbs have also been found to work.  People who suffer from any type of depression have options.  Seek medical help if you or anyone you know shows signs of depression.
