The treatments available include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and antidepressants, although unconventional methods such as self-help, acupuncture and hypnotherapy may also be considered. Meeting with the boss for a performance assessment, asking someone out on a date or introducing yourself to new people; we’ve all felt nervous social experience at some point in our lives. These experiences for social phobia sufferers are much more feared however.
Anxiety Symptoms are likely to occur in such experiences and even trigger an episode. A person might show signs of anxiety including; jitteriness, perspiration, trembling and poor communication. Often social phobia and shyness arises from past negative experiences. Seemingly harmless to people who don’t suffer this disorder, for sufferers it can have huge negative effct on their lives.
Many feel limited with both happiness and opportunities. Lack of self-esteem and assertiveness, being overly self–consciousness and constant worry of what others think; these behaviors stop a person from achieving success in life. It’s quite common for children to fall short at school and to maintain low expectations as they grow up. Sufferers are likely to miss opportunities in life such as relationships and jobs.
Even though many sufferers go undiagnosed and untreated, there is the help of therapy and anti-anxiety medication available. Other methods for Coping With Panic Attacks and anxiety include lifestyle changes and self help techniques. Constant thoughts of worry and too much self-conscious thinking can spark anxiety symptoms. In social experiences a sufferer may have irrational thoughts such as being afraid of being watched by everyone, even if it’s not the case. This can trigger fear and panic.
Having a self-centered perspective only intensifies the experience in a domino effect. It can be difficult to stop thoughts of worry and fear, but with practice it is possible to do so. Using visualization techniques and positive statements can help do this. Also by pushing your boundaries day by day you can gradually become more comfortable to situations that you fear.
Expand your horizons by developing your inner-self through self help books. Anyone can learn to be more confident it’s just a habit. Reduce engaging in self-centered thoughts and worry. Be rational and realize that when you look around that no-one is watching you. Socialize with people you feel comfortable with as much as possible and then try and meet other people. Try taking up a new hobby, go to the gym or do volunteer work.
Use distraction methods if you find it difficult to let go of worrying thoughts. Practice breathing exercises daily to give yourself a break from stress and tension. Reduce stress and anxiousness by taking deep breaths and counting down from 20. Reducing anxiety and controlling panic attacks through breathing can be surprisingly effective.
A relatively unheard self help technique, EFT has shown potential in controlling panic attacks. EFT works by focusing and acknowledging the problem using positive suggestion and balancing your energy flow and disruptions in the body. Unlike acupuncture, EFT uses a tapping technique to stimulate the body’s meridian points. The important thing is to work on overcoming social anxiety everyday.
